On April 25th, Okello Sam, the founder of Hope North, visited NYC to participate in a Tribeca Film Festival discussion panel. The panel put together by Google and a part of their larger series called Google Ideas was an overwhelming success and Okello shared the stage with 3 other panelists to discuss the effects of various types of Illicit Networks.

Within the framework of illicit networks the panel included a survivor of domestic trafficking, a farm worker from Florida, and a former arms dealer from the U.K. Okello represented the role of illicit networks in the use of child warriors.

Okello did an outstanding job of explaining the dark complexities of child warfare and had the crowd audibly responding to his explanation of “pleasing your captors.”

Okello has been invited to join the Google Ideas INFO Summit in L.A. this July 16-18 along with his friend Somaly Mam a Cambodian survivor of human trafficking. Together they will provide an unparalleled view of life inside illicit networks.
